Fushimi Inari Shrine

This Shinto shrine is famous for its thousand Torii Gates. The shrine is dedicated to the Shinto god of rice, Inari. Today the god Inari encompasses success and prosperity. Businessmen and tradespeople are said to seek blessings in many Inari shrines and the Fushimi Inari shrine is the biggest and most revered. The torii gates have been donated by businesses and individuals that are thankful for their success. Foxes are said to be the messengers of Inari, so fox statues are scattered about the trails. Fox masks and trinkets are also sold at many of the shops around the grounds.
